This piece begins with a series of disparate melodic fragments echoed back and forth across the orchestra, bits and pieces of a moody melody finally unveiled at the end. It's an obsessive and methodical piece, and I remember as I wrote it, I felt like I was pulling something heavy up from some great depth. It was hard to make out through the fathoms of water, through which the source of the light kept shifting, until at the end, this grand structure became clear.
